For Cruel and Unusual Films, “cutting edge” is a term that is overused in filmmaking. Rather, Cruel and Unusual Films aims to continually redefine itself through inventive photography, content, design, editing and visual style. Their film, “300,” for example, is a true re-definition of the genre – utilizing the aforementioned elements to create a film that is spectacularly different from what audiences traditionally recognize as a historical epic. It is a modern interpretation, using the constructs of the modern graphic novel as its backbone. 


This website is the company that snyder works for. This shows that Snyder looks to make his films visually beautifull which helps with my final point to Snyders work.


As a trained artist, Snyder takes the time to personally storyboard each scene in his commercials and films himself – a practice that emphasizes his total immersion in the creative process.

Interview with Zack Snyder, its good because he says he enjoys making movies from novels/fantasy's. It also goes on to say that he likes to work with images of a film before he starts filming. E.G For legend of the guardians he saw painting of the owl, watchmen he had a magazine, 300 he had paintings and stories.

These links show a range of reviews for the film "Legend of the guardians" of which has now taken the place of Dawn of the dead because it is much more specific to the question i am aiming to answer in this project.

The final link shows a quote from zack snyder saying how he wants to break the rules of 3D and push it to new boundaries. This helps to show that he doesnt like to follow the "hollywood style" of film exactly to the book or tradition of which helps him stand out in my eyes.

This is the trailer to Zach's newests film of which is an adaptation of the classic novel "Legend of the Guardians". From wathcing the film i can see very big links between his other two adaptations "300" and "Watchmen". I can especially see this from his use of slow motion during battle scenes of which is very similar to battle scenes in "300".

This film is much better to compare to the "300" and "Watchemen" because it shows the charactoristics that make his films very unique. Also it is a classic novel which will make it better than to use "Dawn of the dead" of which is his earlier work and doeasnt show his unique styles in it as much as these three do.
